Mpox 2024 Outbreaker. Mpox is an infectious disease caused by a virus that belongs to the same family as that which causes smallpox. A deadlier strain of the virus, clade ib, is spreading quickly in the democratic republic of congo and has reached at least four previously.
The strain of mpox causing international concern is different than the one that spread in 2022. The world health organization has declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern.
